GROWL's Rainbow Bridge
EMMA:
When Audra went into the York, SC shelter she
found a sweet, scared, blind Golden Retriever mix
which we named "Emma". Emma's family had
decided that she was "too old" to keep any longer
so they had dumped her in the shelter. Audra and
Dawn decided there was no way this girl could
stay there so we took her in as a GROWL kid
although we had idea where she was going to go.
Thanks to the many rescuers who reposted
e-mails about Emma, Audra and Dawn were able
to take Emma to her new home within 48 hours
of leaving the shelter.
UPDATE ON EMMA:
It is with a horribly heavy heart that I write this update about Emma. I spoke with
Emma's new dad and she began having seizures shortly after she arrived at her
new forever home. Her dad took her to the vet and they did what they could for
her but she lost her battle only a few days after arriving at her new home.
Before she left this world though, Emma was able to go to the nursing home to
visit her new grandmother. All of the residents loved her and she let them all hug
and kiss over her. I am not sure if Emma or the residents enjoyed it more. We
send our love, sympathy and gratitude to Alan of Greenville, SC. As heartbroken
as we were to learn of Emma's passing, we are comforted and thankful that she
did not leave this world alone and her final few days were filled with love and
comfort. Emma's story is one that reminds us of why we rescue pets regardless
of their age, history or health. Again, we thank Alan for opening his heart and
home to Emma and send our sympathies for his tremendous loss. Emma, we
love you and will see you at the rainbow bridge sweet girl.
Gus December 5, 2007
It is with a VERY heavy heart that I write this as the tears still continue when I think of
this wonderful cocker that from the moment Andrea and I saw him on the post of the
gas chamber in GA, we knew we had to find a place for this senior baby to go. He
landed here with me in New Jersey. Sadly, my boy Gus passed over to the Rainbow
Bridge today. He had not gotten much better overnight and his kidneys had pretty
much shut down on him, along with his liver. His respiratory infection had not
improved and my poor baby was in pure distress. I went into the ICU this morning to
see him and wouldn't you know it, he gathered the strength yet again when he heard
me call him "My Gussy Poo" to stand up with the IV in his arm and actually walk over
to me before I could get down on the floor to hold him. Shortly after, we spent about
20 minutes, just me and him, and I assured him I would love him forever and that he
was not going to suffer anymore. I held him as he crossed over in peace, I will never
forget those 25 days of pure strength and joy we shared, and the strength he showed
me. I love you "My Gussy Poo" you are forever with me and I will see you at the bridge
Buddy.

Our hearts could never be more full than when a life is saved from
the shelter or is rescued from an abusive situation. Sometimes the
pets are able to spend many years in their new homes and
sometimes they only have a short period to have the love and
freedom they deserve. Although we are heartbroken any time we
lose a GrowlKid, we are so grateful that they were able to know
love and security and leave this earth while in the arms of someone
who loves them. We love each and every one of them and we will
see them at the rainbow bridge!

With all the love and sadness in the world, we are heartbroken upon the death of
Sammie Joe, aka Niamh. In the short time she was a GrowlKid, Niamh stole
many hearts! We were so sorry to be informed that she passed away on July
14, 2008 but so grateful her last few months were in a home where she was
loved and cherished by her mom. We thank Joanne for all she did for this sweet
girl and send our condolences... Niamh's story is below:
GROWL was also asked by a shelter to
take in a 21 year old lab. Yes, you read that
right... 21 YEARS OLD and dumped in the
shelter. Sammie Joe is emaciated, heartworm
positive and deaf but she still has happiness and
love left in her. She is currently at Dr Chappell's
office in Spartanburg, SC and will soon be going
to a forever home once she gets the approval
from the vet. We thank Buck for his devotion to
getting this girl out of the shelter and to the vet's
office so quickly and we thank Dr Chappell and
his staff for all they are doing for her.
UPDATE on Sammie Joe, now named Niamh:
Niamh is doing well and is in her very own forever home! According to her new
mommy, she likes to hang out in the kitchen and wait for food to drop. She is
definitely being spoiled and treated like a princess!!! She has taken over the
recliner and loves to be hugged and kissed on. She is beginning to chum up to
her fellow black lab brother and her other fur-siblings. We thank Joanne for
inviting this girl into her life and being such an angel to her special needs furkids!
Niamh is the smaller one in the video below...
